Maps: Map Options

The map options allow you to modify the map view displayed beneath the thematic layer, change the scale units and utilize tools to facilitate navigating the map and to control map size for presentation and printing.

Map View Options

Choose from one of the three base map types:

  • Normal

  • Aerial

  • Hybrid

Map Unit

The map scale will display in units selected either kilometers or miles.

Other Map Options

The mini map comes in handy when trying to pan around the map beyond the current view.

  1. Select the Show Mini Map check box to show the mini map.

  2. Click Update Map. The mini map is located on the bottom left of the map.

  3. Click and drag the map in the mini map to change the current view of your map.

Fixed Map Options

The map view by default is dynamic and will adjust in size depending on your monitor’s resolution and browser window size. Re-sizing of the map view affects the data represented in the legend. When creating material for presentations on different computers that can not be set to the same resolution the resulting maps may vary. For such situations then select this option to restrict the map view window size to 510 pixels high and 1024 pixels wide.

Optimal Size for Print Map

This option trims the current map view to optimize the usage of the space available on the print page. Selecting this option prior to printing allows you to adjust the geography included in the map.
